Forkd is the pet project I've been working on off and on the last couple of years. It's taken a long time to get off the ground as none of us wanted to quit our day jobs :) We've done this out of love, and a desire to actively participate in creating communities online.

It's a site for saving and sharing recipes. There are plenty of other sites that do similar things, however we have a few new features we think people will find exciting. One of them is the encouragement of remixing, or "forking" is what we call it.(Basically, a fork is a copy of a recipe, but the copy is yours to modify and changes are tracked in a family tree metaphor.) Read more about the ideas behind the site here: http://blog.forkd.com/2007/10/what_is_forkd.html

We'll be adding new features as soon as we possibly can. Go have a look: http://www.forkd.com

If you're interested in becoming a Feta tester (see what we did there) drop a note into the comments and I'll send you an invitation.

I'm so excited I can hardly eat...oh wait...I can always eat.

Are you ever in need of inspiration as to what food matches another? foodpairing.be is an interesting little service that highlights those combinations that make the most sense.

They say:

Food combines with each other when they have major flavour components in common.

This would be great as a massive wall chart, in fact there are probably many different information visualisation techniques that could be used for this information. Great stuff.

Just Hungry has introduced me to ChowHound. I feel like i'm the last to know with this one. Seems like this is a community that's been going for some time, given the response to a recent redesign. Being new to the site, I think it's great. The forums are quick and easy to use, registration simple and it seems that the advice being given is useful. I've only been playing with it for a day or so, but already i've managed to get into a bit of a running debate over whether or not Maggie Jones is a good restaurant. (It is, by the way.)

The advice is honest and obviously given by lovers of chow. Don't be put off by the passion, stick with it and you'll be sure to get great advice on where to eat in just about any local.

There's a massive community of food lovers out there and i'm only scratching the surface.
