Marv’s Classic Soda Shop
February 3rd, 2008 | Written by jfolkmann | Topic: Restaurant reviewIf you’re craving a bit of the 1950s or 60s, visiting Marv’s Classic Soda Shop is like taking a step back in time. Marv has recreated a lost piece of Americana in the small town of Black Diamond in Southern Alberta. He serves malts, sodas and icecream, as well as a host of other classics (hotdogs, hamburgers etc.). His equipment and decor are all original, painstakingly put together from the interweb. Although the shop is kitchy, Marv (with his twisted mustache) keeps it very fun. We couldn’t help but think we were in the middle of an Archie comic book as we sipped our black cow sodas (coke syrup, rootbeer syrup, soda and ice cream). Marv’s is well worth a visit and a nice reminder that the world was once full of interesting shops rather than a Starbucks on every corner!
